During our class, our teacher presented to us an Appropriation of Michelangelo's David. The art itself is an image of the famous Michelangelo; however, it seems to have been painted over with Ronald McDonald. We proceeded to have a discussion about whether or not this is an art piece. I argue that this photo was a form of art. I argue that the photo shows what humans have idolized over the years. During the renaissance, Michelangelo was idolized as being a great sculpture of his time. He was holded in the highest regard in that community. However as time went on, Humanity was turned their interests to other things. Today, McDonald has been created to be a multi-million dollar company. It has become so popular that their mascot has become one of the most recognizable figures in the world. I believe that the creator of this piece was presenting how humanity's focus has shifted over the years.
