POST #10 – LECTURE – PHOTOGRAPHY AND PRINTED MEDIA
During our class, we explored the beginnings of how photographs were made. Back in the day, newspapers used to have words on the paper. Even though Gutenberg was able to create a way of printing words in masses, he didn’t have the technology to add pictures to it. It wasn’t until Joseph Niepce was able to take the first photograph in 1826. However, it took about an 8 hour process to be able to create a photo. However, the Daguerreotype was able to shorten that time to 15 minutes and was able to achieve more detail to the photo. However, the Daguerreotype was soon replaced with the collodion method. The method was about 20 times faster than all the other methods. For the first time, people were able to see the effects of war within their local newspapers. Later in time, Muybridge was able to use this photo process to capture the first movements on film. As time went on, Louis Le Prince was able to create the first moving picture in 1888. Louis Le Prince was able to create the first stepping stone of what she sees on television today.
