During one of our discussions, we saw different paintings made by Pablo Picasso. One of the paintings we discussed was the “Woman in Front of a Mirror”. Since the painting was abstract, we had to come up with what we thought the painting was representing. I thought that the painting represented abuse or one of Picasso’s victims. The teacher mentioned how Picasso was abusive towards his lovers. So I theorized that the painting might just be a reflection of Piscasso's lovers. In the painting, the woman’s reflection looks to have bloody features. However, the woman’s face is divided into two sections. Outside of the mirror, one side is covered in makeup. This could represent how she tries to present herself to people outside of her relationship. She is trying to show people that everything is fine and she has no problems. The other side of the face is very plain. This could represent how she wishes or believes how she feels. It reflects how she is trying to convince herself that everything is fine. However, the reflection reveals how she truly is. She is not ok; however, only when she looks in a mirror, she finds the truth.
